Our Team:

Lawrence Woody Kevin Flynn Chris Larson Andy Goiffon Nick Marquardt

Lawrence Woody

Duties: Team Leader, Weekly Reports

Lawrence Woody is a senior in Electrical Engineering. He is skilled in PCB design, Schematic Design, and Parts selection. He interned at PowerFilm Solar as a product design engineer. His area of study is communication systems.

Kevin Flynn

Duties: Sensor systems, team communications (email: kflynn2008@yahoo.com)

Kevin is a senior in Electrical Engineering. He came from a very small town in Iowa and is the first member of his family to attend a major university. He chose to study Electrical Engineering due to an interest in electronics growing up. His emphasis is in power systems and electronics. He had an internship as Guardian Glass and converted a majority of their lighting, including lighting for specific applicaitons, to newer and more efficient bulbs to save money and electricity.

Chris Larson

Duties: Audio system, interdisciplinary team representative

A senior in Electrical Engineering, with a focus on power systems. To enhance is experience and knowledge of power systems, Chris interned two summers at Iowa's only nuclear power plant: the Duane Arnold Energy Center. There, he learned from plant and system engineers how the plant generates and distributes power. Additionally, he gained valuable first-hand experience reading electrical schematics and P&IDs, writing modification packages, becoming familiar with NERC Standards, observing the Emergency Response Organization during a drill, and the importance of nuclear safety. Chris attended Western Iowa Tech Community College for two years before attending Iowa State. His first year studies provided him basic knowledge of analog and digital devices, electronic circuit analysis, network essentials, and programmable controllers. His second year provided him transferable general education classes, preparing for Iowa State.

Andy Goiffon

Duties: Solar charging system, interdisciplinary team representative

A senior in Electrical Engineering. Andy interned two summers first at ITC in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The other internship was with MISO in Carmel, Indiana. There, he put to pratice what he had learned in his previous semesters at Iowa State where his focus is power systems. Before Andy attended Iowa State he did two years at Kirkwood Community College.

Nick Marquardt

Duties: Webmaster, microcontroller and LCD interface

A senior in Electrical Engineering. Prior to attending Iowa State, Nick spent two years studying at Des Moines Area Community College, and before that he was enlisted in the United States Navy, where he was trained in nuclear reactor operations. His studies are of a power-systems emphasis, and he spent one summer interning at NextEra Duane Arnold Energy Center in Palo, Iowa. Nick also has expertise in programming microcontrollers. In addition, he has been building webpages for over 15 years and has adapted to a wide variety of changes in that environment.
