12. Project Schedule:

The first semester, Spring 1999, schedule did not progress as planned. The Gantt chart represented by Figure 12.1 shows, by activity, the initial estimate and the actual calendar of effort. The software aspects of the projected warranted more time than originally anticipated. Although the source for both the MPEG encoding algorithm and the PVM layer were well documented, it still took a significant amount of time to digest and comprehend the functions of the respective applications. It should be noted that difficulties beyond the control of the team attributed to the significant delay in working with the project web page.

The schedule for Fall 1999 was never implemented after it was decided by the team to expedite the project's completion to Summer 1999. Figure 12.2 does reflect, however, the revisions that were made at the end of Spring 1999.

The Summer 1999 schedule (fig 12.3) represents the confines of a shorter period of time. In order to complete the project, the focus was narrowed considerably. Such refinements included not using PVM due to its complexity. The activities intended for Fall were prioritized, divided among team members, and arbitrarily completed.
