The purpose of our project is to develop an automated chess set that will be able to play against a human in the most natural way possible. It will appear that the chess pieces are moving on their own and the chess board will require a minimal amount of input from the user. The project was developed to bring to life the Mechanical Turk - an 18th century mechanical illusion that allowed a chess master to hide inside a machine in order to appear to autonomously play a strong game of chess against a human. Our client desired an intruiging and complex demo for the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The main problem of interest is to automate chess moves determined by artificial intelligence (AI).
