There are three easily identifiable milestones that can be used to judge the success of this project. The first major step will be the creation of software that runs on a preconfigured network in one of the department's lab. This will be a significant accomplishment, but the added complexities of correctly configuring the hardware will not be a factor. The second milestone occurs when the software runs on the specific hardware intended for the project. This will imply that the operating system has been correctly installed, the network has been configured, and PVM is working. The project will be completed when the software has been tuned to work with the hardware to provide the fastest possible encoding process.
