MPEG video encoding is a powerful technique. However, the price of current real-time encoders puts them out of the reach of most people. The goal of this project is to exploit the highly parallel nature of the algorithm to provide a cost effective encoding method using inexpensive, generic hardware. The software will run on a network of PC's running the Linux operating system. The PVM distributed programming environment will be used as a basis for the application. This project will result in a product of real value to people who would otherwise have no access to this process.
