Title: Program to Evaluate Alternative Energy Sources – Phase 2

Description: The May08-03 project team will develop an Internet-based program which rural residents or farmers can use to evaluate various alternative energy sources, to supplement or replace their current energy supply. The program will consider wind, solar, small-head hydro, micro-turbines, fuel cells, heat pumps (both vertical and horizontal), biomass, and various types of energy storage.

Title: High Performance Optical Interconnect Project – Phase 2

Description:The May08-06 project team will use commercial off the shelf (COTS) technology to develop a high-speed multi-processor fiber optic network and conduct performance benchmarking on the final hardware and software configuration. Options for network protocol include Ethernet and RapidIO.

Title: Statistical Analyzer for Golf – Phase 2

Description:The May08-07 project team will improve upon a Dell Axim-based golf analyzer developed by the May07-07 project team. The current system uses GPS technology and custom software to record golf shot statistics during play for post-game data analysis. The system is intended for use as a golf learning and training tool.

Title: Mixed-Signal Option for the Teradyne Integra J750 Test System - Phase 2

Description:May08-12 project team will develop example IC test procedures for the new mixed-signal option on the Department’s Teradyne IC test system.

Title: Model-Based Software Development

Description:The May08-21 project team will develop a software analysis tool that can be used to associate, compare, and validate the functional equivalence of Simulink models and corresponding programs. The tool is needed for certification of safety-critical avionics software.

Title: Electronic Automobile Fluid-Level Indicator

Description: The May08-22 project team will design a novel electronic automobile fluid-level indicator. The device will automatically read and display engine oil level and, thus, replace conventional dipsticks.

Title: Network Configuration Application

Description: The May08-23 project team will design and develop a user interface application with which Rockwell Collins personnel can configure their Open Systems Architecture (OSA) network for data communications within an aircraft.

Title: High-Performance Bioinformatics Computing on an IBM Cell Processor

Description: The May08-24 project team will port high-performance bioinformatics computing applications onto a cell processor in a PlayStation 3 and study how fast the programs run on the system

Description: May08-26 project team will develop a portable, wearable power pack for soldiers. The power pack must meet DOD specifications.

Title: Automatic Software Testing System for GlobalVetLink

Description: GlobalVetLink’s primary product is a Web-based database for animal transport records. The May08-29 project team will develop an automatic software testing system for GlobalVetLink. The testing system will automate GlobalVetLink’s regression testing process to improve software quality and reduce the time needed to introduce software enhancements.

Title: Clearsighted One-Stop TutorLink (OSTL)

Description: Clearsighted, Inc. develops artificial intelligence-based Intelligent Tutoring Systems, which are much more effective than traditional training system. ITSs have been used very successfully in military flight simulators and more recently in teaching math. The May08-30 project team will develop a system that links client applications with a Clearsighted AI-powered tutor.

Title: Logic Design Training Tool

Description: The May08-32 project team will develop an interactive teaching suite developed for teaching the fundamentals of digital logic.

Title: InfiniBand FPGA Link-Layer Foundation

Description: The May08-33 project team will develop the link-layer foundation of a VHDL or Verilog model for the InfiniBand Architecture. Follow-on projects will develop InfiniBand transport and host channel adapter cores. InfiniBand is an industry-standard specification that defines an input/output architecture used to interconnect servers, communications infrastructure equipment, storage and embedded systems.

Title: Power Control System for a Concrete Durability Test Cabinet

Description: The May08-34 project team will develop a system that can control the temperature of a concrete durability test cabinet, for ASTM freeze/thaw tests. The control system will cycle 110-volt compressor power, to control cabinet temperature.
