Abstract

The world of robotics is growing and many people are interested in learning how to design versatile robots. Many limitations exist and engineers around the world are sharing their ideas and experiences with each other concerning methods to overcome these obstacles.

We will build and test a smart omni-directional robot which communicates with a CPU via a wireless router. We are documenting all the problems we run into and providing solutions so other engineers can learn from our experience.

The robot is not designed for any specific customer. This project is being carried out for our own personal knowledge and to help other engineers in designing similar devices.

Our general approach is to design and implement a telemetry system as well as a vision based localization system. Together, these two systems will provide the information needed for the robot to make its own decisions to guide itself through around obstacles and reach a desired destination. We must plan, design, and carry out tests that will accurately describe the robots characteristics.
